Department of Dravyaguna
The Department of Dravyaguna is actively engaged in teaching, research, and training at the Undergraduate (UG). The department emphasizes the scientific understanding of drugs derived from natural sources, including plant, animal, mineral, and marine origins.
In the contemporary era of evidence-based medicine, there is an increasing need to scientifically validate the therapeutic principles and medicinal substances described in the classical Ayurvedic texts. Recognizing this need, the Department of Dravyaguna plays a significant role in generating scientific, pharmacological, pharmacognostical, and phytochemical evidence to substantiate the therapeutic potential of Ayurvedic drugs and support rational Ayurvedic therapeutics.
The department undertakes natural drug research through an integrated approach combining classical Ayurvedic principles with modern scientific methodologies. Research activities encompass the identification, authentication, pharmacognostical evaluation, phytochemical analysis, pharmacological assessment, standardization, and exploration of the therapeutic properties of medicinal substances. Such multidisciplinary investigations are aimed at generating reliable and globally acceptable scientific data on Ayurvedic drugs.
Laboratory and Research Facilities
The Department is equipped with a well-established and sophisticated Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry Laboratory, facilitating analytical and research activities related to medicinal drugs. The laboratory is equipped with advanced instruments for the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of drug samples.
Medicinal Plant Garden
The department maintains a demonstrative medicinal plant garden within the campus, which serves as an important teaching and training facility for students and researchers. It provides practical exposure to the identification, cultivation, collection, and preservation of medicinal plants.
The department has systematically maintained museum of crude/dry drug samples. These facilities provide valuable resources for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, practical training, drug identification, pharmacognostical studies, and research activities.
Human Resources
1 Associate Professor and 1 Assistant Professor, along with dedicated technical and non-technical supporting staff. The faculty and staff actively contributed to academic teaching, practical training, research activities, student guidance, and the overall development of the department.
