Govt. Ayurvedic College Jammu was established in the year 1962, but closed in 1975 with zero batch from 1969 by the Government. Time to time various committees has been constituted for commissioning the same but unable to start due to non fulfillment of the Minimum Standards of Requirement prescribed by GoI. After a lapse of 44 years in the year 2017, Government has started 1st batch of BAMS (UG) course with 50 intake in make shift arrangement from Indira chowk Jammu & college inaugurated by Hon’ble LG, UT of J&K at the Bank of Chanderbagha Akhnoor on 14 July 2021.

The college started Postgraduate courses in the year 2025 in seven specialities. The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine vide No. 26-112/MARB/2025-Ay. dated 09-10-2025 has sanctioned 32 PG seats in the specialities of Samhita Siddhanta, Rachana Sharir, Kriya Sharir, Kayachkitsa, Panchkarma, Shalya Tantra and Kaumarbhrityafor Govt. Ayurvedic Medical College Akhnoor. After threadbare discussion, the committee has finalized guidelines, Code of Conduct of faculty, non teaching staff, hospital staff, PG Scholars/studentsand decided to notify the same and uploaded on college website.

The student shall have to undergo study for a period of three years including examination or assessment process and minimum 80% of total academic activities to become eligible for appearing in the University examination & other academic activites strictyly as per NCISM.

The committee has decided that acquiring requisite attendance shall be the responsibility of the Postgraduate students in case of deficiency of attendance, the duration of the course shall be extended proportionately. There shall be no provision for vacation or preparatory holidays in Postgraduate Degree programme.

The maximum duration for completion of the course shall not exceed six years from the date of commencement of the academic course as per the academic calendar issued by the Commission for that particular batch.
